CHARLOTTE — 911 calls just released provide new insight into the deadly Doordash shooting that happened on Jan. 22 off Graham Street in Uptown.
Police said DoorDash driver Keshawn Boyd told them that he shot and killed 15-year-old Matthias Crockett because he tried to steal his car while he was dropping off food.
Boyd was arrested and charged with murder.
“I just saw my DoorDasher shoot somebody,” the caller told 911 dispatch.
“Does anyone need medical attention?” the dispatcher asked.
“I don’t know. I ran out because he started running back towards my door,” the caller said.
The person who placed the order told 911 that she saw it happen through her door.
“I was just at it through my keyhole, and I saw him drop off the food and walk back toward the car,” the caller said. “It was a red car. Walk back toward there and just pull out and start shooting.”
“Did he shoot at somebody?” the dispatcher asked.
“Yeah, the driver of the car. I just ran away. I got scared and I just ran into my bedroom,” the caller said.
Boyd has no criminal history and the public defender argued self-defense during his first appearance. The judge sided with the DA’s office for now and ordered him held out of an abundance of caution.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s response to the shooting was fast. Police were there by the time the 911 call was over.
“The cops are out here,” the caller stated. “Somebody’s out here now. Oh, they got him. They got him. They got him…”
“Who did they get?” the dispatcher asked.
It’s likely at some point there will be a bond modification hearing for Boyd, but nothing has been set. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
