5 arrested after undercover human trafficking sting in Rowan County

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Investigators in Rowan County say five men were arrested after an undercover operation to catch people looking for sex with children.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrests on Wednesday. The sting took place in December, and it was part of their “Operation Blue Light,” which Channel 9 previously profiled.

According to the sheriff’s office, officers posed as children and had conversations with the suspects over text messages, social media, and phone calls. The suspects thought the officers were boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 14.

The suspects were identified as:

  • 43-year-old Oscar Adrian Osorio of Fayetteville, N.C.
  • 60-year-old Christopher Anthony Carras of Kernersville, N.C.
  • 70-year-old Edgar Jack Malcom, of Newberry, S.C.
  • 42-year-old Eric Lukjanczuk, of Lewisville, N.C.
  • 56-year-old Lewis Scott Babbidge of Indian Land, S.C.

They’re all facing charges of solicitation of a child by computer.

One of the suspects allegedly spoke with an officer who was posing as a parent, and the suspect “solicited the undercover officer to allow him to engage in sexual acts with his five-year-old son and ten-year-old daughter in exchange for allowing the officer to abuse his two minor children.”

According to the sheriff’s office, investigators said about 20 more suspects were involved, but they couldn’t be identified.
