4 firefighters hurt in Wilmington explosion

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Four firefighters were hurt from battling a fire around 1 p.m. Tuesday in Wilmington.

An impaired driver hit a gas line at the fire on Bob King Drive, causing the explosion before driving off, officials said.

The driver is in custody.

The blast sent debris raining down onto nearby businesses.

It happened at East Carolina Veterinary Medical Center which was supposed to open in September.

No one was inside the home at the time.
