CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — Chopper 9 Skyzoom was over a police presence at a Cabarrus County apartment complex Wednesday afternoon after a shooting.
A man was shot in the leg at a residence during an attempted robbery, Cabarrus County deputies said.
The shooting happened in the area of Rocky River Road and Plaza Road Extension.
There was crime scene tape at the Brookdale Village apartments on Stafford Road, where there seemed to be a police investigation.
The suspects fled the scene before deputies got there.
“It’s scary to hear that,” a neighbor told Channel 9. “It’s broad daylight. This happened a little bit after 12:30 in the afternoon. And our neighborhood, I’ve been here 13 years, our neighborhood has never, ever had anything like this happen before.”
Another neighbor said she was just getting home when the massive police presence started to unfold.
“There were initially three police cars, and all of a sudden, the fire truck pulled in, and about eight or nine other police cars from Cabarrus County just rushed the neighborhood,” said neighbor Bridget Jorgeson. “We’re all just standing here going, I have no idea what’s going on. There were police everywhere, just everywhere.”
The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries
There does not appear to be a threat to the public.
