CMPD investigating homicide near south Charlotte light rail stop

CHARLOTTE — A homicide near a light rail stop in south Charlotte Monday evening is under investigation.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said they responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call just after 6:30 p.m. on the 6100 block of South Boulevard.

At the scene, they found a person near the Norfolk Southern train tracks with a gunshot wound. That person was taken to an area hospital, where they later died, according to police.

CMPD said a preliminary investigation indicates that the altercation happened at a nearby business. However, no additional details have been made available.

The Charlotte Area Transit System released a statement regarding the shooting, saying:

“The incident did not occur on CATS property or at the Archdale station platform.”
