Neighbors describe panic after north Charlotte shooting

CHARLOTTE — A shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday on North Brevard Street, causing panic among local residents as they reported hearing gunfire and witnessing chaotic scenes.

Police blocked traffic in the area while investigating the incident along train tracks in the area.

Despite the ongoing investigation, light rail services in the area continued to operate without interruption.

Investigators are currently canvassing the community to gather video evidence and witness statements. Investigators released the name of the victim the next day: 23-year-old Elijah Vashon Parker.

Residents reported hearing frightening gunfire, with one local resident, Nolan, noting his proximity to the window, saying, “I’m right next to a window, I kinda, I almost hit the deck.”

Another resident, Kim Fontaine, described her reaction, stating, “I actually felt like I needed to duck cause I didn’t know where they were exactly.” Fontaine also witnessed the chaos directly, observing individuals fleeing the scene.

Some residents expressed their concerns for safety following the shooting. Fontaine noted, “This is probably one of the worst things I’ve seen around here; city life is one thing, but this is a lot.”

Police Major Gene Lim confirmed that narcotics were located at the scene, indicating the potential complexity of the situation.

He stated, “I can share with you there was some narcotics located on the scene, and we’re dealing with that as well.”

Major Lim remarked on their efforts to reach out to nearby residents, saying, “We are going through the motions of trying to find out victims, witnesses, any suspects at this time.”

Authorities are actively seeking more information and evidence related to the shooting. Further updates are expected as the investigation unfolds.
