CHARLOTTE — One person is dead and another was injured after a stabbing near the Blue Line in South End on Friday night, according to paramedics.
MEDIC said they responded to the Lynx station near Camden Road around 10:20 p.m. and treated three people. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, one was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and another patient has minor injuries, MEDIC said.
CMPD has confirmed they are investigating the stabbing as a homicide, and confirmed one person was killed in the stabbing. Officers said they discovered the victim with stab wounds and pronounced the suspect deceased at the scene.
Police identified the victim as 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska.
The other person transported was the suspect, 34-year-old Decarlos Brown. He sustained stab wounds and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to CMPD.
Police said that upon Brown’s release from the hospital, he will be arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
CMPD said at the scene that they have a person of interest in custody. Officials also said that the stabbing took place on the train, but they aren’t sure when.
